Why is "Touch grass." funny?
Internet & meme culture
Who it channels
The chronically online — and the standard advice flung at them.
Where it comes from
An internet insult telling someone who is too deep in a pointless online argument to go outside and, literally, touch some grass.
Why it lands
It reduces a whole diagnosis — you have lost perspective, you need the physical world — to two curt words and a very specific mental image. It is an insult that is also, annoyingly, good advice.
How to drop it
A friend sends their fortieth message about a celebrity feud. You reply: "Touch grass."
